“Hobbs” (yearling Haflinger pony) has a new life in Clayton after
rescue from a feed lot in Washington State.  But he faces a long road
of surgery and rehabilitation.

Hobbs, a year-old Haflinger pony, is finding a new life in Clayton, rescued at
the last minute from the feed lots near Yakima, Washington.  Thanks to The
Columbia Basin Equine Rescue, Hobbs and other healthy horses at that
feed lot are offered a second chance at life.

Hobbs was apparently surrendered by his former owner because he has a
club foot, a condition that is correctable with surgery, rehabilitation and lots
of love.  With two or three days notice, Beth Kennalley of the Founder
Rehabilitation Ranch was able to arrange “bail” and shipping to bring Hobbs
to the Ranch for evaluation and hopeful rehabilitation.

He will be arriving at his new home on Saturday, March 18.  On Tuesday,
March 21, Hobbs will be evaluated by the veterinary orthopedic department
at U.C. Davis.

Surgery is needed to correct Hobbs’ club foot immediately.  The most
successful treatments are begun at an earlier age, so he will require
aggressive care due to his “advanced age.”
 The surgery at U.C. Davis
for the club foot (plus having him gelded) will cost more than $1,000.
The cost to rescue him from the feet lot and get him to Clayton
already exceeds $600.

Donations may also be mailed to:  4190 Leon Drive; Clayton, CA 94517
